Don't Tax My Credit Union

Don't Tax My Credit Union

Authored By: NSCCU on 2/26/2025

North Star CCU is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative. Credit unions across the country take a “people first” approach as not-for-profit financial cooperatives, owned and operated by the people they serve. It’s a smart financial choice, and we are so glad to have you as a member of our credit union.

The credit union focus on serving our members and helping you work toward financial success, instead of chasing profits for a small group of stockholders, makes us the best option for safe and affordable financial services for families and small business owners. Due to our structure as a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative, we do not pay corporate income tax on profits. That’s because we return earnings back to our members—in the form of better returns and more affordable products.

Because you are a member-owner of North Star CCU, we want to keep you informed about issues in Washington, D.C., or North Dakota that impact our ability to provide the best possible service to you.

There are Wall Street bank lobbyists and politicians in Congress who want to tax credit unions, which really means a new tax on you and the more than 140 million other Americans who choose a credit union as their financial partner.

By putting a new tax on not-for-profit credit unions, the Wall Street banks know they can eliminate competition and increase bank profits. But it doesn’t make sense to tax people like you just because you choose to keep your money in a credit union instead of a bank.

To help protect your credit union, contact your U.S. Representative and Senators and tell them Don’t Tax My Credit Union through our easy-to-use Action Center.

We sincerely appreciate you being a member of North Star CCU.

Take Action
